September in Chicago has a way of sneaking up on us.
One day it still feels like summer. Then suddenly the neighbors are putting pumpkins on their steps, the hydrangeas are changing color, and you're looking at your front porch thinking, is it time to do something for fall?
If you're considering professional fall porch decorating in Chicago, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge, Western Springs, Clarendon Hills, or River Forest this year, now is the time to start looking.
But before you book a fall porch display, there's something worth knowing:
Pumpkin delivery and pumpkin design are not the same thing.
What Is Professional Fall Porch Decorating?
Professional fall porch decorating has become increasingly popular throughout Chicago and the western suburbs, especially in communities like Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge, Western Springs, Clarendon Hills, and River Forest.
Instead of spending a Saturday driving from garden center to garden center, loading pumpkins into your car, hauling them onto the porch, and trying to figure out where everything should go, a professional service handles it for you.
Depending on the company, that can mean anything from delivering a predetermined package of pumpkins to creating a completely custom exterior fall installation.
At Luxe Pumpkins, we take the latter approach.
We don't begin with a pile of pumpkins.
We begin with your house.
Its architecture. The stone or brick. The width of the stairs. The front door. The landscaping. The sightline from the street. And, most importantly, the homeowner's personal style.
Then we design the fall installation around it.
The Most Beautiful Fall Porches Don't All Look Alike
If you're searching for fall porch decorating ideas in Chicago right now, you'll see plenty of pumpkins.
Lots and lots of pumpkins. Piles of pumpkins.
But more isn't necessarily better.
A beautiful home deserves a display that looks like it belongs there.
A limestone home in Hinsdale may call for creamy whites, soft sage greens, and enormous blue-grey heirloom pumpkins.
A grand entrance in Oak Brook or Burr Ridge might have the scale for oversized heirlooms and architectural elements that transform the entire entrance.
A traditional home in Western Springs or Clarendon Hills might look spectacular in deep terracotta, burgundy, muted green, and ivory.
And the historic architecture found throughout River Forest may inspire an entirely different palette and composition.
That's the difference between decorating a porch and designing an exterior for fall.
At Luxe, we don't do piles.
We don't use hay.
We don't use cornstalks.
And you won't find ordinary orange carving pumpkins lined up across your stairs.
Instead, we search boutique Midwest farms for unusual heirloom and specialty pumpkins with extraordinary shapes, stems, colors, and scale.
Sometimes the perfect pumpkin isn't pretty in the conventional sense.
It's lopsided. Ridged. Almost blue. Deep red. Sage green. Chalky white. Maybe it has a ridiculous stem.
Those are usually the ones we want. If they're weird, I'm on it.
Don't Worry If Your Neighbor Already Has Her Pumpkins
This is important.
You're not late.
In fact, some of the most extraordinary pumpkins of the season are still growing. Let them grow.
Luxe Pumpkins begins our 2026 installations September 29 for a reason. We want our farmers to give these pumpkins the time they need on the vine.
We're not interested in being the first porch on the block.
We're interested in creating the one everyone notices.
Our pumpkins are selected from boutique Midwest growers, where unusual heirlooms and specialty varieties are still being tended and allowed to mature.
We wait.
Then we go find the good ones.
What Should You Look for When Hiring a Fall Porch Designer?
Start with the portfolio. Not the AI. Look closely. Is a "designer" featuring AI images? If it's an AI rendering, like our Iron Orbs, do they note that it's AI? If not, they're effectively lying to you.
Look beyond the number of pumpkins and ask yourself whether the displays actually look designed.
Do different houses receive different treatments? Does the designer understand scale? Does the display complement the architecture? Are there interesting colors, shapes, and varieties? Does the work feel distinctive?
Most importantly, does it look like something designed specifically for that home, or does every house receive a variation of the same pumpkin display?
Then ask what happens after installation.
Because putting the pumpkins down is only the beginning.
Chicago gives an outdoor fall display sun, rain, wind, squirrels, and occasionally weather that seems to include all four in the same afternoon.
Luxe installations include weekly maintenance throughout October. We return to treat the display with our critter deterrent, which was 98% effective in 2025, and make adjustments or touch-ups when needed.
When the season ends, we come back again.
We remove the display, and the pumpkins are donated to a local farm.
You don't haul anything.
You don't dispose of anything.
You just enjoy fall.
Pumpkin Delivery vs. Custom Fall Porch Design
If you're searching for pumpkin delivery in Chicago or the western suburbs, you'll find companies that can bring pumpkins to your home.
That may be exactly what you're looking for.
Luxe Pumpkins is different.
We are for the homeowner looking for custom fall porch design.
Every Luxe installation is individually considered. We work with the proportions, architecture, colors, and character of the property and source pumpkins for the design rather than simply delivering a fixed assortment.
For 2026, we're also incorporating architectural pieces including our towering black Obelisks and sculptural Iron Orbs, allowing us to take pumpkin design vertically and create installations that feel more like temporary exterior art.
Because there are only so many homes we can design, source, install, and personally maintain, we accept a limited number of clients each season.
When Should You Book Fall Porch Decorating in Chicago?
Now.
If you've been saving beautiful fall porches on Instagram and thinking you'll deal with yours once it actually feels like fall, this is your sign to start.
Our 2026 installation season begins September 29, with installations continuing as the harvest comes in.
And September is when we're designing those porches.
This is when we can talk about your color palette, look at your home's architecture, and determine whether you want something understated, dramatic, traditional, or completely unexpected.
You don't need to know exactly what you want.
That's our job.
