How Luxe Pumpkins Stayed Fresh Through November 7 and Why We Picked Up Early This Year

At Luxe Pumpkins, our clients expect premium pumpkin porch displays that stay beautiful. This season proved the power of our weekly spray service and inspection program. Our pumpkins remained exceptionally fresh through November 7, even after weeks of sun, rain, and curious wildlife.

Across all Luxe Pumpkins homes, only a very small number of pumpkins had squirrel nibbles. Most homes and no nibbles and some homes had one special plain carving pumpkin that the squirrels targeted. We call those “sacrificed” pumpkins. I move them into the bushes and let the squirrels enjoy. Those nibble numbers were incredibly low considering the huge volume of pumpkins we placed. Freshness is our signature, and we design our entire process to protect your display.

Why We Picked Up Early and How It Protected Your Display

By November 7, 98 percent of clients chose to keep their Luxe Pumpkins displays through Thanksgiving, and the weather was cooperating beautifully. Then the forecast changed.

On Sunday and Monday, November 9 and 10, temperatures were predicted to drop into the mid 20s, which is a dangerous level for pumpkins.

Here is why those temperatures matter:

• A freeze does not ruin pumpkins. The thaw does.
  Once pumpkins freeze and then warm back up, the internal structure collapses. They turn into mush very quickly.

• Mushy pumpkins become extremely heavy.
  My crew cannot shovel and haul literal tons of pumpkin pulp. Disposal is challenging because pumpkins cannot go in household trash and the "Smash" events are over.

• The animals need the pumpkins before a freeze.
  Luxe Pumpkins is committed to sustainability. We deliver pumpkins to our partner farm for animal feed, but only when they have not frozen. Once frozen, they are no longer usable.

Even though temperatures jumped back into the 50s later in the week (of course they did!), the safest and most responsible choice was to begin pickups early to protect your property, our crew, and the animals that enjoy these pumpkins.

The Clients Who Brought Some of Their Pumpkins Inside Won

A few clients had special pumpkins they wanted to save. They brought them inside during the two cold nights and placed them back out today.

The results are outstanding.

Those pumpkins still look terrific and will absolutely last through Thanksgiving.
